Girls’ Night Out

You know you need one! For the last two month’s we’ve been having PJ Parties at Stitch. These usually include sewing pajama pants, pizza, dancing, lots of sugar consumption, and more sewing. It is a blast to get together with other sewers in the area and make new friends!

This month we are hosting a Girls’ Night Out… September 17 from 6 – 9pm. We’ll be making pajama pants and perhaps enjoying a few beverages of the adult variety… so this time it’s grown-ups only. Class is $45 and you’ll need to register ahead of time to reserve a space. This class is open to beginners and advanced students… It’s a great opportunity to meet some other like-minded individuals and enjoy some relaxing and fun sewing time!

You’ll leave the party with a completed pair of PJ pants that you can wear around your friends and make them jeal.

As with any of our classes, if you do not have a machine you can lease one from our collection to work on during class!

July Class Schedule

We have some cool classes planned for you this month!  How about a new sundress for those hot summer nights?  Whip one up using the shirred elastic technique–hardly any fitting is needed, and they are really comfortable, too!  And this means no zipper – wow, can it be any easier?

Did you buy dozens of patterns recently on sale?  Put them to use and take the Skirt Workshop, your choice of pattern we will guide you through each step – starting with choosing the correct size pattern all the way to the hem.  See how fun it is to sew in a group, share ideas and get inspired to try different techniques.

Also on the schedule is a stuffed animal workshop, toddlers applique bucket hat, alteration clinic, wrap skirt and a summer fabric necklace – we also have these fabulous necklaces for sale in the store if you need one for tonight!  Available in prints and gorgeous burmese silk – the perfect accessory for summer!

Oh, and don’t miss our Pajama Party!  July 22nd,  make a pair of PJ’s and enjoy a deelish pizza with us – a fun time for sure!

Make some new sewing friends in  our  sewing clubs.  Burdastyle, Church of Craft and Stitch by Hand.  All clubs are free.

It can all begin one Saturday CRAFTernoon…

We’ve had a lot of demand lately for a monthly class where kids and teens to get together and get crafty… so here you go!

Starting in February, we’ll be holding Saturday CRAFTernoon on the second Saturday of each month. The class will be held from 1 – 4pm and will be open to students ages 8 – 14. The class fee is $45 and will include a kit for that month’s class. Some of our projects will be french-seamed tote bags, pencil pouches/ cosmetic bags, binder covers, fabric cuff bracelets, softies, and MUCH more!

This is one of our younger seamsters. She is very gifted and we love having her and her sisters at Stitch! When customers stop in to see what’s new and they see such a young sewer they are always surprised. With one on one or small group classes, it’s amazing what these kids can do! It’s inspiring to see them leave with their finished products. Elizabeth has made a skirt, pajama pants, a tote bag, and an applique wall hanging during her lessons at Stitch Cleveland. On her own, she has experimented with her sewing machine and made many other fun projects! Keep it up, Elizabeth, you inspire us!

We are really excited to offer these classes and even more excited that there has been a demand for them. How great that sewing is making a huge comeback for our kids. Someday as they start sewing businesses, or go to fashion school, or stitch someone up on an operating table they will think fondly of how it all started… one Saturday CRAFTernoon!

SEWING + FRIENDS = FUN at Stitch Cleveland

Our Tuesday After School seamsters just completed their first project.  Here they are showing off their creations.

They are so much fun and amazing with their enthusiasm.   On their first project, they have learned how to channel quilt, insert a zipper and use the Fasturn tool for making the zipper pull.  As well as straight stitching practice and using the zigzag stitch on their machines.

They  have a very long a list of projects they want to make, including bean bag chairs, clothing, American Girl Doll clothes, pillows, fleece mittens  & hats,  and even a quilt.  Yay for sewing!

Draping is so fun!

Today at Stitch Cleveland, the afternoon was spent draping a fabulous design by a young designer we are sure you will see a lot of in the future!

L has completed a croquis book this summer for ‘homework’ and has chosen five outfits to present in a portfolio! From the five, L and Megan have decided to make a few of their favorites. Well, L will do most of the work…

The first steps came today. Muslin was draped and pinned to shape the fitted top that will have boning, lining, and an inner support structure. L has thought out every detail with Megan’s help… thread color and topstitching, zipper application, and hand sewn details. We can’t wait to see the final products. Wait until you see the skirt that goes with this top!

This photo shows her work in progress. If you’re thinking…

“gee wiz… that looks great, I could never do that!”

… you are so wrong! L is 13 and came to Stitch Cleveland as a beginner sewer. She has been practicing and working hard on her own as well as with us in the shop.

Ready to start something fun like this? Stop in!

Soft Basket workshop

Another great project using channel quilting.  Great for organizing your projects or the kids toys, and they make great gift baskets, too!  Join us for this fun class where you’ll learn how to insert a round bottom and how to make different size baskets, too. Saturday morning, August 15th, 9am-noon.

I made this one for a baby shower, and stuffed it with disposable diapers.  Wouldn’t this also make a great gift for a new knitter, add some yarn and a pattern-she’ll love it!

Rainy day sewing

Rainy days are the best for sewing aren’t they??  Saturday morning we were thinking just that.  Check out these awesome  baskets made in this weeks Soft Basket class.  We had a great time sewing & watching the rain through the front windows.  And it did help that Blackbird had sticky buns and fresh coffee!!

IMG_0713Coordinating some old fabrics from fabric stashes and new fabrics  from our store, ducks, birds, flowers and prints-they each have a  personality of their own, don’t they?

In this class we learned an  easy technique on how to insert a round bottom, channel  quilting, how to apply a band, and handles.  The handles are  pre-made of heavy duty canvas with contrast topstitching to give  a utilitarian look to the basket, you could also make the handles  of a contrast fabric to give it a different look-all these options are  discussed in class.

Warm summer evenings are also great for sewing!

Check out these students and their projects from last Thursday nights Quilted Cosmetic Bags class. Can you tell we had fun?  We learned how to quilt, insert a zipper, made a loop handle and a cool zipper pull accent, too!
