Learn how to make this fabulous tunic in our Sewing with Knits workshop in March. Knits are great to work with once you learn the tricks, they are easy and fun to wear, too!
I think one in every room to coordinate with the decor would add just the right touch of Holiday Spirit throughout the house!! Stripes of fabulouse prints ( I love the new black/white that just arrived) stitching in contrasting threads and stitches-gold & silver, too! And a touch of Santa fur to top off the toe! December 7th, 6-9pm, supply list includes embellishments of your choice(bits of ribbons, buttons, trims, etc). Can’t fit it in?? Schedule a private lesson and make one, or two, or three….

This is one of our younger seamsters. She is very gifted and we love having her and her sisters at Stitch! When customers stop in to see what’s new and they see such a young sewer they are always surprised. With one on one or small group classes, it’s amazing what these kids can do! It’s inspiring to see them leave with their finished products. Elizabeth has made a skirt, pajama pants, a tote bag, and an applique wall hanging during her lessons at Stitch Cleveland. On her own, she has experimented with her sewing machine and made many other fun projects! Keep it up, Elizabeth, you inspire us!
We are really excited to offer these classes and even more excited that there has been a demand for them. How great that sewing is making a huge comeback for our kids. Someday as they start sewing businesses, or go to fashion school, or stitch someone up on an operating table they will think fondly of how it all started… one Saturday CRAFTernoon!
Our Tuesday After School seamsters just completed their first project. Here they are showing off their creations.
They are so much fun and amazing with their enthusiasm. On their first project, they have learned how to channel quilt, insert a zipper and use the Fasturn tool for making the zipper pull. As well as straight stitching practice and using the zigzag stitch on their machines.
They have a very long a list of projects they want to make, including bean bag chairs, clothing, American Girl Doll clothes, pillows, fleece mittens & hats, and even a quilt. Yay for sewing!

Today at Stitch Cleveland, the afternoon was spent draping a fabulous design by a young designer we are sure you will see a lot of in the future!
L has completed a croquis book this summer for ‘homework’ and has chosen five outfits to present in a portfolio! From the five, L and Megan have decided to make a few of their favorites. Well, L will do most of the work…
The first steps came today. Muslin was draped and pinned to shape the fitted top that will have boning, lining, and an inner support structure. L has thought out every detail with Megan’s help… thread color and topstitching, zipper application, and hand sewn details. We can’t wait to see the final products. Wait until you see the skirt that goes with this top!
This photo shows her work in progress. If you’re thinking…
“gee wiz… that looks great, I could never do that!”
… you are so wrong! L is 13 and came to Stitch Cleveland as a beginner sewer. She has been practicing and working hard on her own as well as with us in the shop.
Ready to start something fun like this? Stop in!
Another great project using channel quilting. Great for organizing your projects or the kids toys, and they make great gift baskets, too! Join us for this fun class where you’ll learn how to insert a round bottom and how to make different size baskets, too. Saturday morning, August 15th, 9am-noon.
I made this one for a baby shower, and stuffed it with disposable diapers. Wouldn’t this also make a great gift for a new knitter, add some yarn and a pattern-she’ll love it!
Stop next door at Blackbird Baking Company for a scone and coffee on your way in, mmmm!
Join us on Facebook, you are on Facebook aren’t you??
Rainy days are the best for sewing aren’t they?? Saturday morning we were thinking just that. Check out these awesome baskets made in this weeks Soft Basket class. We had a great time sewing & watching the rain through the front windows. And it did help that Blackbird had sticky buns and fresh coffee!!
Coordinating some old fabrics from fabric stashes and new fabrics from our store, ducks, birds, flowers and prints-they each have a personality of their own, don’t they?
In this class we learned an easy technique on how to insert a round bottom, channel quilting, how to apply a band, and handles. The handles are pre-made of heavy duty canvas with contrast topstitching to give a utilitarian look to the basket, you could also make the handles of a contrast fabric to give it a different look-all these options are discussed in class.
Warm summer evenings are also great for sewing!
Check out these students and their projects from last Thursday nights Quilted Cosmetic Bags class. Can you tell we had fun? We learned how to quilt, insert a zipper, made a loop handle and a cool zipper pull accent, too!
I was so inspired I made another one the next morning using Amy Butler home dec fabric to match my laptop cover.
Look for these classes on the schedule for August
We hope you had an enjoyable weekend celebrating with family and friends! Finally, a sunny day-woo hoo! The fireworks everywhere were amazing. I just love all the events of summer, picnics, swimming, art festivals, carnivals, and just lazing around on a sunny day doing nothing! I love to get up early and mozy down to my sewing studio with my morning espresso, open the door and just listen to all the birds chirp.
We’ll be open on Tuesday at noon. You can still register for the Quilted Cosmetic bag class, scheduled for Thursday evening from 6pm-8:30. Call to register and you can choose your fabrics when you arrive for the class. This is a great project-once you make one you can make a bazillion!! Learn the basics of channel quilting-which changes the personality of any fabric, insert a zipper, made a small loop handle and a zipper pull and it’s a super duper gift, too! You’ll have plenty of time to finish it in an hour and a half-promise!! …how many days til Christmas????
Do you avoid adding closures to all of your garments? Did you use Velcro to close the sundress you just completed and called it a design detail? Maybe every garment you’ve ever sewn has been cast aside at the step that requires you to slap the zipper foot onto your sewing machine?
Consider this an intervention. We care about you. We want you to succeed. Most of all, we want you to unzip. The sound of a well placed zipper makes my heart flutter! Reserve your spot now in our Zipper Clinic coming up this Tuesday, June 16th at 6pm. The cost of this clinic is $25 and includes supplies to complete samples of an invisible zipper, a fly front zipper, and a lapped zipper in class. You will leave class with three finished samples and written directions for each one that you can file in a binder for future reference. What a great way to start a sample library for yourself! Call to reserve your spot!

and save some cash while ya do it! Take a look at these projects friends, Ingritt and Darryl made together last week. They caught the “I wanna sew” bug and signed up for a few lessons together while the kids are were in school. Fun! Their first lesson was a pattern for a coin purse with a zipper, a little overwhelming for them at first, but with our help it was a breeze. Their second project was this shoulder bag, Ingritt chose our fabric with the bird from Tina Givens collection and Darryl has an endless stash of vintage fabrics, they had so much fun together and completed their bags with the perfect buttons.
Schedule a lesson with a friend, make the same project and the lesson rate is only $35 each for two hours.

Heidi’s been sewing and knitting like a madwoman for her soon to arrive grandson. In case you haven’t heard, her daughter, Megan, is expecting her first baby in March. First grandchild, yes, we’re all sewing, knitting and crocheting like crazy!! We’re makers, and just can’t help it, it’s just what we do.
This week, she started a quilt…
This is the quilt top, it will have a narrow border and free-motion stitching will be applied, similar to the rocket quilt that is on display in the store.
Are these not the most adorable booties you’ve ever seen? These are from Amy Butler’s new book, Little Stitches for Little Ones. And by the way, Amy will be visiting us April 17th, details on that event to be posted soon.
And some knitting, too. This weather is great for knitting and these small projects go quick!! On her needles now is the baby Einstein bunting from Sally Melville , and on her hook is the Babette blanket from Interweave Press.
And by the way, you can learn all of these techniques at Stitch Cleveland, because that’s what we do!
