Free Motion Quilting

Try your hand at free motion, yep, get loose and stitch all over everything!  Once you try it you will want to quilt every project you make!  This is a demo/hands on class, so you’ll see a demonstration of the technique and we’ll have several machines set up so you can try your hand at it.  It’ll be lots of fun so be sure not to miss it.  It seems everyone is interested in this technique!  March 14, 1-3:00 pm $15. (please register by March 11)

We’ll be taking sign-ups during the demo for the  workshop  scheduled later in the month where we’ll be making a quilted bag, the sample is almost done! If you’ve ever taken a class with us, you know how much fun it is to spend an afternoon at Stitch.  Friends + sewing = fun at Stitch!

Join our Burdastyle Sewing Club , we’ll be meeting monthly on the 2nd Saturday starting April 3rd.

Check our classes page for updates on classes scheduled for February and March.

MetroHealth and Stitch Cleveland

Stitch Cleveland is partnering with MetroHealth and The Cleveland Institute of Art to contribute to the Aids Memorial Quilt. Together, we will be contributing 20 new panels to the quilt that is displayed throughout the country. 20 Cleveland area families will be chosen to team up with artists from CIA and volunteers from Stitch Cleveland to create and assemble 3′ x 6′ panels that will then be used to create a 12′ square quilt to be displayed in Atlanta, GA and be a part of the traveling exhibit!

Stitch Cleveland is excited to be a part of this project. Janome has kindly donated machines for our use. Sulky has donated supplies such as thread and stabilizer. We are still looking for volunteers to help the families with their creations. Sewing experience is great but not a necessity… we will also need quilt sitters, sketchers, and much more! For more details about volunteer opportunities with Art, Activism and Aids you can click, call or stop in!

Soft Basket workshop

Another great project using channel quilting.  Great for organizing your projects or the kids toys, and they make great gift baskets, too!  Join us for this fun class where you’ll learn how to insert a round bottom and how to make different size baskets, too. Saturday morning, August 15th, 9am-noon.

I made this one for a baby shower, and stuffed it with disposable diapers.  Wouldn’t this also make a great gift for a new knitter, add some yarn and a pattern-she’ll love it!

Does your sewing machine have an assortment of stitches?  Ever wonder what you’ll ever use them all on??  This project is an excellent  stitch sampler, you will experiment with the stitches on your machine  to create this “art quilt”.  You’ll also have several options for finishing.

If you don’t have a sewing machine of your own, don’t let that stop you- we have machines available for classes, just let us know when you register for the class.  $60, kit fee.

Rainy day sewing

Rainy days are the best for sewing aren’t they??  Saturday morning we were thinking just that.  Check out these awesome  baskets made in this weeks Soft Basket class.  We had a great time sewing & watching the rain through the front windows.  And it did help that Blackbird had sticky buns and fresh coffee!!

IMG_0713Coordinating some old fabrics from fabric stashes and new fabrics  from our store, ducks, birds, flowers and prints-they each have a  personality of their own, don’t they?

In this class we learned an  easy technique on how to insert a round bottom, channel  quilting, how to apply a band, and handles.  The handles are  pre-made of heavy duty canvas with contrast topstitching to give  a utilitarian look to the basket, you could also make the handles  of a contrast fabric to give it a different look-all these options are  discussed in class.

Happy 4th of July

fireworkWe hope you had an enjoyable weekend celebrating with family and friends!  Finally, a sunny day-woo hoo!  The fireworks everywhere were amazing.  I just love all the events of summer, picnics, swimming, art festivals, carnivals, and just lazing around on a sunny day doing nothing!  I love to get up early and mozy down to my sewing studio with my morning espresso, open the door and just listen to all the birds chirp.

We’ll be open on Tuesday at noon.   You can still register for the Quilted Cosmetic bag class, scheduled for Thursday evening from 6pm-8:30.  Call to register and you can choose your fabrics when you arrive for the class.  This is a great project-once you make one you can make a bazillion!!  Learn the basics of channel quilting-which changes the personality of any fabric, insert a zipper, made a small loop handle and a zipper pull and it’s a super duper gift, too!  You’ll have plenty of time to finish it in an hour and a half-promise!!  …how many days til Christmas????
