It can all begin one Saturday CRAFTernoon…

We’ve had a lot of demand lately for a monthly class where kids and teens to get together and get crafty… so here you go!

Starting in February, we’ll be holding Saturday CRAFTernoon on the second Saturday of each month. The class will be held from 1 – 4pm and will be open to students ages 8 – 14. The class fee is $45 and will include a kit for that month’s class. Some of our projects will be french-seamed tote bags, pencil pouches/ cosmetic bags, binder covers, fabric cuff bracelets, softies, and MUCH more!

This is one of our younger seamsters. She is very gifted and we love having her and her sisters at Stitch! When customers stop in to see what’s new and they see such a young sewer they are always surprised. With one on one or small group classes, it’s amazing what these kids can do! It’s inspiring to see them leave with their finished products. Elizabeth has made a skirt, pajama pants, a tote bag, and an applique wall hanging during her lessons at Stitch Cleveland. On her own, she has experimented with her sewing machine and made many other fun projects! Keep it up, Elizabeth, you inspire us!

We are really excited to offer these classes and even more excited that there has been a demand for them. How great that sewing is making a huge comeback for our kids. Someday as they start sewing businesses, or go to fashion school, or stitch someone up on an operating table they will think fondly of how it all started… one Saturday CRAFTernoon!

…we will all look back on this and laugh. Well, day two and we are still digging ourselves out. Looks like Stitch Cleveland is having another snow day. Poor Shannon is stuck in Boston after her Stitch ‘n Beach cruise with Debbie Stoller. I can hear all of your sympathetic groans now! Stitch Cleveland will be open on Monday from 12 – 4 to satisfy any of your stitchy needs.

New schedule & pricing

You asked for it, you got it! We’re standardizing our private lesson prices across the board and offering more of them. Unless otherwise stated, all private lessons with each of our three instructors are $25 as of 1 September 2008. Private knitting lesson with Shannon? $25. Two-hour class with Megan? $50! Three and half hours of hands-on help from Heidi? Well… you can do the math. Kit fees, if any, are not included in the hourly instructor fee.

What does this mean for the printed schedule? We’re redesigning it so it makes more sense in light of the new prices, and it will be available online as a PDF soon. Meanwhile, feel free to call the shop and ask about any class — we’ll happily get you signed up!

We offer sewing classes that are appropriate for all age groups and skill levels. You can even learn something new together by taking the Parent and Child Sewing Class — check out our calendar for details. Our First Annual Secret Santa will be held this weekend, December 16th from noon until 5pm. Crochet 101

Learn to crochet this weekend at Stitch Cleveland and River Colors! On Sunday from 1 – 2:30pm Heidi will be holding a Crochet 101 session for beginners. This class is only $15 + supplies (under $10). Come in a little early to choose your hook and yarn at River Colors. See what is new in store, and learn to work with this winter’s new yarns. By the end of class you’ll have an understanding of basic crochet stitches and lingo. During class you will get started on an envelope bag or a fashionable belt! Perfect to keep for yourself (if you’re stingy) or to give as a gift! Give us a jingle to sign up, only a few openings remain!

Yarn Masters of the Silver Hook — a division of Crocheters Anonymous

So here I am mid-meeting and I felt like I had to write a message to our adoring public to tell them what they’re missing. The men and women in this group are getting down and dirty with hook and yarn in hand! Don’t worry, even if you miss tonight’s meeting (scheduled for 6-9pm) your crochet addiction is not hopeless… join us here at Stitch Cleveland on the first Thursday of each month for an evening of advice, conversation, and only a little bit of bragging about all of our projects. To be a member of this group you need not have a serious crochet addiction (although most of our members have confessed to having at least ten unfinished projects). We can help even the novice or beginner crocheter make their hobby into a hard core addiction.

Stitch Cleveland launch party 21 July

Yes, we’ve been open since the beginning of June, but you know how it is — finally we get to take a quick breather and host a grand opening extravaganza! We’ll be in the shop all day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the 21st doing demos, drawing for prizes and celebrating, so stop by and join the fun. (Press release is here, if you’re interested).

Bring your knitting, your crochet, your embroidery, your sewing, your friends, but most importantly — YOU!
