What’s new

Moving westward!!!

Eight years ago, Stitch Cleveland started as a crazy idea we had for a social sewing studio and blossomed into what it is today! We can hardly believe what it’s become. Thanks to you, we’ve created a family business that we are proud of and that has enabled us to feed our creativity and develop professionally at the same time. We cannot begin to thank you enough for your support and generosity over the years.
The time has come for us to move on from our traditional brick and mortar storefront and turn to a less traditional but perhaps more comfortable way to do business. We’ve decided that in order to continue to be at our peak creativity, we should close our storefront and continue our classes in our own home studios! We’re certain you’ll love the change. We have the same setup… Lots of sewing space, cutting tables & creative energy! Without the worries of parking and the busy intersection! We’re excited for you to see where we get creative and inspired and hope it inspires you, too!
Heidi will continue to teach kids after school classes and private lessons in her Westlake studio, which is conveniently located on Center Ridge near Crocker Park.
Megan will be concentrating on several design projects and releasing her own line of PDF sewing patterns! She will continue to teach private and small group lessons out of her home studio in Avon near Avon Commons.
If you are interested in a Birthday Party or Girl Scout event – call to discuss details! We have had so many fun and memorable parties with kids – it’s become one of our favorite stitchy things to do. We are still working out the details but are looking forward to introducing our new party and troop events very soon.
Our store in Lakewood will host its last classes during the week before Christmas. (last day will be December 23) We are excited about the changes ahead and hope to see you all in our studios! Please stay connected… We’ll remain active on Facebook, our website, and our email newsletter. You can still reach us via email and phone!
Sincerely-
Heidi & Megan

You showed some love & voted for us! XOX

Hey, all you lovely seamsters out there…you showed your love and
helped us reach 250 votes on the Mission: Small Business℠ page to get closer to qualifying for a $250,000 Grant. Now, we wait for a decision from  a panel of judges, we certainly hope they fall in love with us!!  (how could they not, right??)  Send some positive karma our way!!

Your votes really meant alot, thank you to all who took the time to vote- we really really really appreciate it!  Friends is what it’s all about, right?  And you showed that we have lots!  yay!

So, if we are awarded this Grant, we have lots of plans churning in our creative little brains…and they will all benefit you!   More fabrics, more notions & patterns, more machines to play with and more space for classes.  Yes, our fingers are still crossed !!  It’s a long shot, but hey, ya don’t know if ya don’t try, right??

We hope  you also took advantage of our recent Groupon offer.  The group class schedule will be up soon, with lots of fun projects.  We’re just finishing our 2nd week of Summer Sewing Camp – it has been so much fun!!  If you missed it, we still have a few spots available in the July and August camps, so give us a call if you’re interested.  The girls made capris, peasant tops, headbands, shoulder bags and coin purses – by the end of the week everyone knew how to wind bobbins, thread their machines, hem, insert elastic and their favorite – the spray starch!  There were many jealous moms who want  Mom Sewing Camp!!!  hmm, there’s a thought!!  We’re also offering Kids & Teens sewing club on Friday afternoons until August.

Remember to mark your calendars for Amy & David Butler’s visit on August 4th.  Please register by July 30th.  With pre-registration you’ll be entered into a drawing for a special prize!  We’ll have several  drawings during her visit, too — so don’t miss the fun!

Summer is buzzing by uber fast, stop in and check out our new fabrics-we have lots of Kona solids and Amy Butler’s Lark collection as well as Parson Grey’s Curious Nature. PS, the air is on and it’s nice and cool !  : )

Heidi & Megan…and Minnie, too   XOXOXOXOXOXOX with sugar on top!

Barber Shop Rock

Call Bryan over at Barber Shop Rock at 216.712.7005. You'd better tell him we said hey.

One of our friends just opened a great place to get your hair did… Barber Shop Rock. Found on the east side of Lakewood, this cool place is full of fun stylists and great ideas. Talk about inspiration! These hair ‘designers’ can give you great ideas for your head. So, after you come to Stitch to get your clothes all in order… go over to Barber Shop Rock to complete the look! I’m heading over there for a new color at the end of the month… I’m thinking pink.

Patternmaking Must-Haves…

I think I heard your sewing room calling for a new gadget. Check out some of the new ones we got in…

Needle tracing wheels, awls, pattern notchers (all shown here), as well as hip curves, L-squares, french curves, rabbit hole punches, pattern hangers, tape measures (and more!) are available at Stitch Cleveland.

Don’t forget we also offer industry pro dressforms and half size dressforms. Stop in to see our floor samples and decide which one you need.

Draping is so fun!

Today at Stitch Cleveland, the afternoon was spent draping a fabulous design by a young designer we are sure you will see a lot of in the future!

L has completed a croquis book this summer for ‘homework’ and has chosen five outfits to present in a portfolio! From the five, L and Megan have decided to make a few of their favorites. Well, L will do most of the work…

The first steps came today. Muslin was draped and pinned to shape the fitted top that will have boning, lining, and an inner support structure. L has thought out every detail with Megan’s help… thread color and topstitching, zipper application, and hand sewn details. We can’t wait to see the final products. Wait until you see the skirt that goes with this top!

This photo shows her work in progress. If you’re thinking…

“gee wiz… that looks great, I could never do that!”

… you are so wrong! L is 13 and came to Stitch Cleveland as a beginner sewer. She has been practicing and working hard on her own as well as with us in the shop.

Ready to start something fun like this? Stop in!

Cozy flannel fabric

What timing…this flannel  designed by Valori Wells arrived just in time to make cozy pajama pants to keep us warm during this freeze-and it has been freezing, can you believe this weather? It’s also perfect for a cozy quilt.

I love the print, cheery contemporary  little birds in orange, yellow and green, chirp chirp!  I couldn’t wait to make something right away, so our heating pad has a brand new cover-super easy-with a matching button closure.  We put it under our feet on the ottoman last night while we watched a movie-it kept our toes perfectly warm!
