Stitch ‘n Kayak!

What can I say? We bring the fun. On Sunday 16 September at 9:30 a.m. our next-door neighbor River Colors Studio is organizing a stitch ‘n kayak event at the marina down the block. Bring your knitting, crochet, embroidery, whatever — we’ll kayak, then stop for a lovely picnic lunch. Cost is $35, you can pay in person at River Colors or call to register/pay (216) 228-9276. There are only 10 spots left as I write this.

We’ll meet at the Emerald Necklace marina (directions), which is just a short drive down from Stitch Cleveland and River Colors, about a block down into the Metroparks entrance on Detroit on the right, before the Lakewood dog park. See you there!

The new fall schedule will be available on the website soon.

Sock Club: fall schedule preview

6 sessions over 3 months with Andi Smith of KnitBrit for a mere $60. Classes will take place every other Saturday (29 September, 13 & 27 October, 10 & 24 November, 8 December) from noon to 2:00. What else do you get for your $60? 3 all-new custom sock patterns by Andi, one per month, and a 10% discount on sock yarn at both River Colors and Stitch Cleveland.

Stick around after sock class for an all-new “tech bag” class that will appeal to knitters of all levels — build your skills as you knit and make a gorgeous project, too. We’ll also have a toe-up socks on 2 circular needles class. Details to come soon.

Rhinebeck bus trip: sign up now

Here’s the plan: we’ll leave from Stitch Cleveland late Friday night 19 October, arriving in Rhinebeck first thing in the morning. Breakfast, then fiber show! At the end of the day, when you’re all super-exhausted, we’ll pile back onto the bus, arriving in Cleveland late Saturday night.

I like to think of it as 24 hours of exhausting fiber fun.

There will be plenty of space to stash your purchases below on the bus (no need to drive nine hours in a car reeking of unwashed fleece…trust me on this one, I’ve done it).

The price? $150. Or about what you’d spend on gas, given current prices, with the added bonus of knitting and socializing. Add $10 for the show entry fee, which you’ll pay when we arrive.

Limited seats are available, so please book ASAP. You have two choices: sign up using the PayPal Buy Now link below (for credit cards), or send a check made out to Stitch Cleveland — 1387 Sloane Ave, Lakewood, OH 44107.

If we do not meet the passenger minimum, your prepayment will be refunded in full.

This year’s featured sheep breed is the Bluefaced Leicester, seen in the illustration above.

Hand-dyed yarn & our Etsy shop

Do you like handpainted yarn? If you’d been in our parking lot a week ago, you’d have seen these being colored after one of Stitch Cleveland’s dye classes! We’ve posted them on Stitch Cleveland’s Etsy shop so that the poor stitchers who aren’t nearby can have a look and a chance at buying them, too. (Etsy, for those of you who haven’t seen it before, is an online shop for handmade items). Or come by the shop!

Soon, Stitch Cleveland will have a fully-functional online shop of its own — I’m building it right now. But for the time being, please enjoy what we’ve posted on Etsy and on the “shop online” page here at the site!

Calling All Crocheters!

One day, five simultaneous parties around the country to celebrate Crochet Me: Designs to Fuel the Crochet Revolution, edited by Kim Werker, and you can be at one of them!

Join us at Stitch Cleveland Sunday, 14 October for the Crochet Me American book launch party and meet book contributor/fellow Ohioan Robyn Chachula!

Robyn will be teaching Beyond The Afghan from noon to 2:00 pm. Sign up now; class space is limited!

Party goes from 2:00 p.m. to ? — we’ll be celebrating alongside five other locations in Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Washington, so expect Shannon to attempt some kind of crazy webcam video link to the other sites.

Why come? Because you are a crocheter (or you want to be!). Because you know deep down in your marrow that it’s time to represent the craft. Because you want to get your exclusive debut copy signed in person. And really, because you want to be a part of the crochet revolution!

(Join the book’s crochetalong here and show off your masterpieces at the party — the events will be featured on Interweave’s new website Knitting Daily later that week and we can’t let the other cities show us up, can we?)

Rhinebeck Sheep & Wool Festival Trip Signup

If you’ve been, you’ll want to go back; if you’ve never been, believe us, you want to go. Stitch Cleveland is organizing a bus trip to Rhinebeck, NY for the legendary Sheep and Wool Festival. Play a little Rhinebeck bingo, pet the fleeces, drool over (but not onto) the handpainted yarns and other good stuff… we’re going to have a fabulous time. It’s happening 20-21 October.

Please sign up for the announcement list below if you’re interested in going. Those on the list will have first crack at seats on the bus. We’re looking into two options: one, leaving Friday night and driving all night, then spending all day at the show and coming straight home or two, staying over somewhere near the show and driving back Sunday.

The problem is this: the show’s so popular, hotels anywhere near it are very, very booked months in advance. So, if you aren’t interested in an all-night pajama party on the bus, let us know. Pricing and other details will be determined by which option we choose. Feel free to post a comment with any questions and we’ll answer them as best we can!

Yarn Masters of the Silver Hook — a division of Crocheters Anonymous

So here I am mid-meeting and I felt like I had to write a message to our adoring public to tell them what they’re missing. The men and women in this group are getting down and dirty with hook and yarn in hand! Don’t worry, even if you miss tonight’s meeting (scheduled for 6-9pm) your crochet addiction is not hopeless… join us here at Stitch Cleveland on the first Thursday of each month for an evening of advice, conversation, and only a little bit of bragging about all of our projects. To be a member of this group you need not have a serious crochet addiction (although most of our members have confessed to having at least ten unfinished projects). We can help even the novice or beginner crocheter make their hobby into a hard core addiction.
