We’re so proud!

We are so happy for one of our favorite students, Esther. Her beautiful quilt, Sunset Forever, has won second place at the Lake Farm Parks Quilt Show! Congrats, Esther! You can see her beautiful quilt on display until March 25th.

Esther has been busy sewing and designing for quite a while now. She is and experienced quilter and garment sewer. She’s been learning the ins and out of pattern drafting and design during her private lessons with Megan! Esther has made some incredible garments. Her first design is pictured below.

Way to go, Esther! The greatest thing about sewing is finding out how creative you can be! If you’re ready to learn how to make your dream wardrobe a reality – give us a call to schedule your first patternmaking class!

Amy Butler happiness

There is nothing happier than a BRIGHT ORANGE Amy Butler shower curtain when you get up first thing in the morning, and here’s proof:

Karen hemmed it up for me while I was busy with 2 classes (thanks, Karen!) It’s 2 widths of fabric, sewn side by side. I wanted it deliberately long, but this has made it the cats’ new Favorite Hideout. The biggest challenge was spacing the metal eyelets at the top appropriately, since the curtain itself is wider than the liner, but once that math was out of the way, all was well!

Springtime from the inside out

Will Spring ever arrive??  Maybe not outside for awhile, but with these fresh looking Home Dec fabrics From Amy Butler’s Nigella Collection you can bring it inside now!  Pillows, quilts, placemats, aprons, ironing board covers and window treatments never looked better.  These fabrics are 54″ wide, 100% cotton with a wonderful sateen finish.

Need help getting started?  Join us this Saturday for the Applique Pillow workshop or schedule a private lesson to get you on your way!

The finished quilt

Here is a photo of the finished quilt,  just in time for Megan’s shower, too-yay!  Which, was lots of fun by the way.  The guests each decorated a onesie for the baby, an update on that with photos coming soon!

Mark your calendars for Amy Butler’s visit on Friday evening, April 17th.  We have some fun stuff planned for all you fabric junkies!  Enter your projects in our Amy Butler Groupie trunk Show which will be on displayin the store from  April 10th thru April 23rd.  Stop in the store for a participation form.

Felted Bowl

One of our customers stopped in last week and commented on how much fun our Super Bowl Felted Bowl party was last year. This year the Super Bowl came and went, so I thought I’d share the pattern with you.  I love the I-cord bind off, it makes such a nice firm edge.  After knitting, I just put them in the washer to felt.  This I-cord bind off is also a great technique to add to baby sweaters, like one of our other customers did just recently.

We have several of these bowls in the store holding all kinds of small items. It’s a quick and easy project with very impressive results!  I like to stripe them,  and then needle felt them with dots.  See what you come up with!!

SMALL FELTED BOWL PATTERN

2-size 10 circular needles, or set of dpns
Cascade 220

Cast on 12 st.
Knit 48 rows in garter stitch (this will be the bottom of the bowl)
Pick up and knit 12 sts along side edge, 12 sts along other side and 12 more stitches along last edge( 48 st.)
if using circular needles, divide sts over 2 needles.
purl the first row
knit 12 rounds
purl next round
knit for 4 rounds
purl last round
using i-cord bind off:  cast on 2 st, knit 2 st, knit next 2 st tog BL,
transfer all 3 st to LEFT needle, repeat to bind all st off, slip stitch tog at end.

This project could very easily be crocheted as well, I’ll work on a pattern for all you hookers next!

BTW…if you need help with the pattern, stop in and we’ll help you out!

What Heidi’s been up to…

Heidi’s been sewing and knitting like a madwoman for her soon to arrive grandson.  In case you haven’t heard, her daughter, Megan, is expecting her first baby in March.  First grandchild, yes, we’re all sewing, knitting and crocheting like crazy!!  We’re makers, and just can’t help it, it’s just what we do.

This week, she started a quilt…

This is the quilt top, it will have a narrow border and free-motion stitching will be applied, similar to the rocket quilt that is on display in the store.

Are these not the most adorable booties you’ve ever seen?  These are from Amy Butler’s new book, Little Stitches for Little Ones.  And by the way, Amy will be visiting us April 17th, details on that event to be posted soon.

And some knitting, too.  This weather is great for knitting and these small projects go quick!!  On her needles now is the baby Einstein bunting from Sally Melville , and on her hook is the Babette blanket from Interweave Press.

And by the way, you can learn all of these techniques at Stitch Cleveland, because that’s what we do!
