Amy Butler Trunk Show coming soon!

That’s right! Mark your calendars for June 3rd through the 17th and be sure to make time to stop in to see Amy Butler’s new trunk show! Although Amy won’t be visiting this year (we had a great time with her last year), she is sending samples of her great new patterns for us all to look at and be inspired by. We’ll be stocking our shelves with new fabrics and patterns leading up to the week of the show to give you more reasons to stop on in.

In honor of our new place (and to give ourselves a set goal date to be finished with painting, decorating, and unpacking) we’ll also be planning some great customer appreciation events for the month of June all to be kicked off by a little bit of celebrating!

The ‘liverpool’ is one of Amy’s new patterns. We’ve got several in stock and it sure does work up cute! This sweet tunic can be made long or short to be worn as a shirt or dress. So perfect for summer! Imagine it with some great vintage buttons…

Church of Craft is in the new ‘hood!

This weekend will be our first Church of Craft meeting at our new location! Come on in and try out the new space… Bring in your current project or just come in and get inspired by some of the things other people are working on! I’ve been telling myself for weeks that I should be sewing more clothes for myself so I think I’ll get started on Saturday during our meeting! Hope to see you there on Saturday, April 24th from 1 – 4pm!

Heather Ross & Keds!

I love the Heather Ross prints but always felt shy about sporting them on a garment. I see that Ms. Ross created some cute little Keds for sale at zazzle.com. These sporty little numbers are just the right amount of unicorns for a grown women to wear… You can even customize the trim colors! Just another way to be crafty. Just yesterday Heidi and I were saying we wish we could make shoes… now we’re one step closer!

Sewing + Librarians = Fun

Lakewood Public Library is going green! They are hosting a free event where you can make your own tote bag to carry all of those awesome finds from the nooks and crannies of the library… or the grocery store, or the market, or anywhere else, really.

Join us on Saturday, April 17th from 9am to noon. You can either volunteer with us to be a seamster and assist registered participants in sewing their totes or you can register yourself and learn how to make a tote! We are really excited to be a part of this event… and hope you’ll join us in making Lakewood a more awesomer place to craft…  and read.

To register or volunteer please contact the Lakewood Public Library at 216.226.8275 or stop in to Stitch Cleveland and we’ll be happy to pass your info on to the library!

STITCH BY HAND

Yes, that’s what I said.  Those of you who know me are aware that I like to do all sewing by machine…fast & easy.  And you may have read one of my recent posts on Alabama Stitch…hand stitching-!  I don’t know what’s happened to me, but I am really liking hand stitching, maybe it’s the gramma in me coming out!  yikes!

Anyways, I have recently talked with many seamsters who love sewing by hand…embroidery, quilting, sashiko, etc.  So, I thought it would be fun to get together and do just that.  So, please join us to share stitches first Thursdays at Stitch, 6-8pm.  Starting on May 6th.

I’ll dig out my embroidered totebag that I started many moons ago, it’s a Betsy Johnson pattern from Butterick – that’ll give you a hint on how long ago that was!

Holiday Sewing

I love to make things for people as gifts for the holidays. I’m always trying to think of what I’ll make for the guys. Girls are easy… they can always use a shoe bag, necklace, cosmetic bag, or purse. Handmade ideas for guys are what I struggle with.

For Easter I made all my guys ties. They turned out great! I chose colorful fabrics and prints – not your average masculine ties. They were good sports and wore them to Easter dinner… so sweet! I used an old Butterick pattern but I have some changes I would make to it if I were to make it again so I’m working on a pattern of my own. Even little Rex had a tie to match the big guys!

I think this may be a fun project for the next BurdaStyle Club… all four ties only took me about 2 hours to make!
